Course Summary
This webinar aims to provide a detailed, practical overview of how we prepare and develop puppies and young dogs for a future as detection and/or tracking dogs. We begin with selection. What do we look for when choosing a puppy? Can you rely on puppy tests, or should you go with your gut feeling and experience? Next, we cover reward systems and search development. What kind of toy should I choose? When should I train the "release" command? How do I make food rewards more valuable? How much search development is needed before introducing the indication? When is it time to introduce obedience and control? We also cover socialization and environmental training, and how to find a balance between every day life and training.
